Wat Phra That Nong Bua, Ubon Ratchathani

History

Wat Phra That Nong Bua has the only square-shaped chedi in northeastern Thailand.

What to see

The main chedi is an impressive copy of the Mahabodhi temple in Bodgaya, India, although the white and gold paint gives it a slightly tacky appearance. Inside is a smaller chedi gilded with gold. Recorded Pali chants can be requested by dropping a coin into one of several machines in the main hall. The architecture of the viharn defies description.

Getting there

The No. 10 song-taew will take you all the way to the temple, which is near the bus station.
