Wat Phra That Cho Hae was established during the reign of King Lithai in the 14th century.
The Chiang Saen-style gold-plated chedi, built to enshrine a hair relic of the Buddha, is 33 meters high, and stands on a square, redented base 10 meters wide. An additional attraction for pilgrims is the Thun Jai Buddha statue seated inside a narrow alcove.
Song-taews run from near the town center but are not very frequent. The last one leaves the temple around 3pm. Most visitors have their own transport.
