Wat Okat Si Bua Ban temple pre-dates the town of Nakhon Phanom.
The temple's main attraction is the twin Buddha images of Phra Taew and Phra Tiam which, according to legend, floated across the river from Laos. They are housed in the viharn. Also of interest are several carved wooden window shutters featuring the legendary nareepol (nareephon) "fruit maidens."
The temple is within walking distance of the Windsor Hotel and other lodgings in the center of town. It is the first in a string of riverside temples along the Mekong.
