The temple is believed to have been built in the Sukhothai period.
Wat Nang Phaya is famous for its collection of Phra Nang Phaya (votive tablets used as amulets), which were found in the temple's crypt in 1901 and 1954. It also has a series of very vivid temple murals.
Located on Putthabucha Road, near Naresuan bridge, the temple is a 20-minute walk or 30-baht samlor ride from the clock tower in the center of town.
