Wat Lokayasutharam Reclining Buddha, Ayutthaya

History

Wat Lokayasutharam consists of a group of ruined pillars and a large reclining Buddha image out in the open.

What to see

The reclining Buddha statue is made of brick covered with plaster and is about 42 meters long. Vendors in front sell the flowers and incense required to make an offering to the image.

Getting there

The temple is at the west side of the island. Hire a bicycle at the guesthouse area on Soi 2, pick up a map at the tourist office near the intersection of Sri Sanphet Road and Rotchana Road, cross the canal near the elephant camp on Pa Thon Road and then head north beside the water.
