Wat Choeng Tha, Ayutthaya

History

Wat Choeng Tha dates from the early Ayutthaya period.

What to see

The temple has a Khmer-style prang and a hall with fading murals and a statue of King Taksin, who was once a temple boy (dek wat) here. The hall is behind the main assembly hall, above a building with barred windows. There is also a shrine to King Taksin at the entrance of the monastery.

Getting there

The temple is to the north of the island. Hire a bicycle at the guesthouse area on Soi 2 (pick up a map at the tourist office near the intersection of Sri Sanphet Road and Rotchana Road), cross the river near Wat Thammikkarat and turn left.
