Wat Chiang Man ("The Temple of the Fortified City") was founded by King Mangrai in 1297.
The temple's 15th century gilded chedi (restored in the 19th century), known as Chedi Chang Lom ("Chedi Surrounded by Elephants"), is a mixture of Lanna and Sinhalese-Sukhothai styles. In the main viharn is the city's oldest dated Buddha image - a standing Buddha commissioned in 1465.
The temple is in the old city center.
