Thai Buddha Footprints

Before Buddha images became objects of veneration, the Buddha was often represented by a symbol, and a footprint (Phra Phutthabat) was one of the most common. Occasionally, these footprints are natural rock formations, such as the one at Saraburi's Wat Phra Phutthabat, but usually they are man-made, elaborately carved and often gilded with gold.
