Phimai, in Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) province, was in ancient times a Khmer city named Vimayapura. The Phimai Historical Park protects one of the most important Khmer temples in Thailand, a temple marking one end of the Ancient Khmer Highway from Angkor.
The central prang (Khmer-style spire) and stone lintel carving of "Dancing Shiva" are the main attractions.
The historical park is best seen as a day-trip by bus from Khorat city. The bus takes about one hour and stops close to the park entrance. The entrance fee for foreigners is 100 baht.
