Tak Guide

Tak Province lies between Myanmar (Burma) and Sukhothai province in the lower north. Situated on the River Ping, the provincial capital is a quiet country town with a population of 20,000. It can be reached from Bangkok's Mor Chit bus station by airconditioned bus in about 7 hours. Regular minibuses run to Kamphaeng Phet (1 hour) and Mae Sot (2 hours). From the bus station, it's a 15-minute walk to the town's main temple and another 5-10 minutes into the town center, where there are some very picturesque wooden buildings. More interesting is the bustling border town of Mae Sot, with its large market and its border crossing to Myawaddy, where there are several interesting temples.
